MAX Funding Rates

Funding is a payment between long and short holders of a perpetual contract.

At a positive rate, longs pay shorts

At a negative rate, shorts pay longs

About MAX Funding Rates

Funding rates for MAX perpetual futures reflect the cost of holding long or short positions. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when negative, shorts pay longs. The settlement interval depends on the venue and the contract — 1h, 4h and 8h are all in use — and rates can vary significantly across exchanges. Traders use funding rate differences between exchanges for delta-neutral arbitrage strategies. We monitor funding rates across 7+ exchanges including Bybit, Bitget, OKX, MEXC, Gate.io, and KuCoin, updating data every 10 minutes.

What are Funding Rates?

Funding rates are periodic payments between long and short traders in perpetual futures markets. They keep the futures price aligned with the spot price. High positive rates indicate bullish sentiment (longs pay shorts), while negative rates signal bearish conditions (shorts pay longs). The settlement interval differs by venue and contract (1h, 4h or 8h), so rates are compared per hour rather than per period.

MAX funding questions

What is the current MAX funding rate?

The MAX funding rate varies across exchanges and is updated every 10 minutes. Check the comparison table above for the latest rates across all supported exchanges.

What does a positive MAX funding rate mean?

A positive funding rate means traders holding long MAX positions pay those holding short positions. This typically indicates bullish market sentiment with more demand for long positions.

How much does it cost to hold a MAX perpetual position?

Holding your side costs or earns the funding paid at each settlement: when the rate is positive the long pays and the short receives, when it is negative it is the other way round. The holding-cost table above shows this on 10,000 of notional at the current rate; it is the cost of one side, not an arbitrage return. Two-leg scenarios are on the MAX funding arbitrage page.

How often are MAX funding rates settled?

Funding intervals for MAX differ by venue: unknown. Each payment is the rate for that interval, so the table also shows the rate per hour — the unit in which venues with different intervals can be compared.
