Linea bridge: deposit ETH and claim a withdrawal on Ethereum

Written by Yieldo ·
An alien harbour keeper lowers a docked ferry’s gangway to collect a violet suitcase on the receiving pier.

To move ETH from Ethereum to Linea, choose Native Bridge in the official Linea bridge. The return trip has two transactions: send from Linea, then claim on Ethereum. Between them, the bridge confirms a cross-chain message. The second transaction needs ETH on Ethereum, so the first successful receipt is only part of the withdrawal.

Here is the route, followed by a public 2.58 ETH withdrawal completed on 20 October 2026. Its two receipts show the delivered amount, each expense and the event that confirms completion.

Choose the direction and fund gas

Ethereum and Linea keep separate balances. The same wallet address can hold ETH on both networks, but each transaction spends funds on the network where it runs. A measure of the work a network performs to process a transaction. The network fee depends on the amount of work and its price, and is paid in the asset specified by the network rules. measures the work required to execute a transaction; its amount and price determine the network fee.

A deposit into Linea starts with ETH and gas on Ethereum. A withdrawal in the other direction pays for sending on Linea and claiming on Ethereum. Leave ETH for those operations rather than allocating the entire relevant balance to the transfer.

Linea mainnet uses chain ID 59144 and ETH for transaction fees. The LINEA token has other ecosystem roles; buying it is unnecessary for gas. The Linea overview explains the network and its applications.

Open the official Linea bridge. Native Bridge uses the network’s own route between Ethereum and Linea. All Bridges selects other routes through an aggregator, with their own receive amounts and costs.

Operation lifecycle

Funding Linea and returning to Ethereum

The native bridge connects the networks through messages. An aggregator offers separate routes with its own pricing and liquidity.

  3. 03Asset on Linea

A native-bridge deposit starts with a transaction on Ethereum. After message delivery, the asset becomes available on Linea; further transactions require ETH on Linea.

Sending and receiving are separate stages. Claim availability depends on message finalisation. Receiving on Ethereum also involves that network’s gas.

Deposit ETH from Ethereum into Linea

  1. In Native Bridge, choose Ethereum → Linea and ETH. Your connected wallet sends the transaction on Ethereum.
Linea deposit form: ETH from Ethereum to Linea
Deposit: From is Ethereum and To is Linea. Enter the ETH amount in Send.
  2. Enter the amount and review the recipient. The bridge allows a different recipient address; that recipient must control the address on Linea.
  3. Read the transfer amount and sending costs in the confirmation. Approve Bridge in your wallet and keep the Ethereum receipt.
  4. Open bridge history using its receipt icon. Automatic claiming is selected by default for eligible ETH deposits: the bridge service delivers the ETH. If automatic delivery has not completed and the transfer shows Ready to claim, open that same transfer and claim manually on Linea. The manual transaction needs ETH on Linea. Completion is the receipt of funds on Linea, where further transactions use the Linea ETH balance.

With ERC-20 tokens, approvals let A program recorded on a blockchain. It performs defined actions with funds and data when called, such as exchanging tokens according to an application’s rules. spend a permitted amount. USDC follows a separate path: Native Bridge uses CCTP and requires manual claiming. The selected asset determines the steps; the worked example below follows ETH.

Withdraw ETH and claim on Ethereum

  1. Select Linea → Ethereum, ETH and the amount. Set the Ethereum recipient. The sending transaction runs on Linea.
ETH withdrawal form: Linea to Ethereum
A withdrawal starts with From: Linea and To: Ethereum. Claim on Ethereum follows message finalisation.
  2. Confirm it and open the receipt. A successful status means the source network accepted the send. Find that transfer in bridge history.
  3. Wait for message finalisation, which makes the message eligible for execution on Ethereum. When history shows Ready to claim, open the transfer and select Claim.
  4. Confirm the transaction on Ethereum. The wallet submitting Claim needs ETH on Ethereum. See the Ethereum overview for the network context.
  5. Open the destination receipt. A successful claim completes the route, with the delivered ETH at the recipient address on Ethereum.

The interval depends on message processing. A source receipt and an available Claim are separate stages. Sending again while the first transfer awaits confirmation creates another transfer.

A completed example: 2.5801 ETH sent, 2.58 ETH delivered

This public pair of transactions ran on 19–20 October 2026. The owner first called the bridge on Linea, then claimed to the same address on Ethereum. All times below use Moscow time, UTC+3.

StepDate and time, MSKResult
Send on Linea19 Oct 2026, 17:25:04The call supplied 2.5801 ETH; its message delivers 2.58 ETH
Claim on Ethereum20 Oct 2026, 04:32:23The message was executed and 2.58 ETH delivered

The 0.0001 ETH difference is the contract’s minimum fee at the source block. We read that parameter at the same block: 100 000 000 000 000 wei. Wei is the smallest ETH unit; one ETH contains 1018 wei. This fee parameter changes separately from gas prices.

The MessageSent event has a zero fee field. The contract already separated its minimum charge and put the remaining message-delivery incentive in that field. The full cost therefore combines three amounts:

ExpenseETH
Contract minimum fee0.0001
Sending gas on Linea0.000002744158148078
Claim gas on Ethereum0.000023992810111648
Total for these two transactions0.000126736968259726

Each receipt’s gas cost equals gas used multiplied by its effective gas price. The delivered 2.58 ETH is a separate amount: the wallet pays gas on each transaction’s network. The two transactions were 11 hours, 7 minutes and 19 seconds apart; the claim timestamp includes the owner’s choice of when to submit the second transaction.

Find the transfer’s current stage

The example’s transactions share one message identifier, its hash. Linea records it in MessageSent; Ethereum records it in MessageClaimed. That match joins the send and the claim even though they have different transaction hashes.

If history still awaits finalisation, the transfer remains between stages. Ready to claim means Claim is the next action on the destination network: Ethereum for a withdrawal from Linea, or Linea for manually claiming a deposit. Once claiming succeeds, view that network and the recipient address in your wallet: a balance display for another network will show that other network’s funds.

The bridge app displays unclaimed messages from the last 90 days in its history. For an older transfer, the official Claim old messages guide describes claiming with the Lineth SDK. Keeping the source receipt makes the message and its parameters recoverable.

If your ETH is still on an exchange

An exchange with ETH withdrawals open on Linea can deliver directly to that network. Choose Linea and your wallet address; the exchange sets its withdrawal charge. Compare exchange withdrawal fees for Linea by asset and network in the table. Its charges apply to exchange withdrawals, while the worked example above uses the native bridge.
