That table already surfaces one headline number: Bitget's flexible product posts a strong 1.05% APR, among the highest single rates on this page. What it doesn't show is something more interesting: both Gate.io and Bybit run two different MON products each — an on-chain (delegated) product and a flexible product — and the gap between them, on the very same exchange, is enormous.

In plain terms: if you deposit MON on Gate.io or Bybit and tap the first "Stake" button you see — which is very often the flexible product, since it's the one with instant redemption and no lock — you could be earning a fraction of what the same exchange pays on its on-chain product for the identical coin. Neither MEXC, OKX, KuCoin, BingX, nor Binance currently list a MON staking product on Yieldo's tracked data, so this comparison is specific to Gate.io and Bybit.
Why Gate.io's On-Chain MON Pays More Than Flexible
Gate.io's flexible MON product works like a subsidized savings account: instant redemption, no lock-up, and a rate the exchange sets internally — currently 2.02% APR. Its on-chain product is structurally different: Gate.io delegates your deposited MON to Monad network validators on your behalf and passes through a share of the resulting protocol-level staking reward, currently 12.71% APR, with a short lock period (around 2 days at last check).
That's the core reason the two rates diverge so sharply — flexible is a manufactured, liquidity-driven product; on-chain is closer to the actual yield Monad's network pays validators, filtered through the exchange as a custodian. The trade-off for the higher rate is the lock period and the fact that your MON is delegated, not sitting in a redeemable pool.
Bybit On-Chain vs Flexible MON: the Same-Exchange Gap
Bybit shows the same pattern, at an even wider spread: flexible MON pays 0.80% APR with instant access, while Bybit's on-chain MON product pays 10.73% APR by delegating your MON to validators through Bybit's staking infrastructure. On a same-day, same-exchange basis, that's roughly a 13x difference for choosing one button over another in the Earn menu.
If you're going to hold MON on Bybit for any meaningful stretch of time and don't need instant liquidity, the on-chain product is very likely the better default — just confirm the current lock terms before committing, since they can change.
Is On-Chain MON Staking Safe? Delegation vs CEX Earn
It's worth being precise about what "on-chain" staking means here, because it's easy to conflate two different things:
- Native Monad validator staking — delegating MON directly from a self-custody wallet to one of Monad's roughly 200 active validators. This requires running or choosing a validator (minimum self-stake around 100,000 MON, with unbonding taking roughly 5–6 hours), and you keep full custody the entire time.
- Exchange "on-chain" staking products (what Gate.io and Bybit offer) — you deposit MON into the exchange's custody, and the exchange delegates a pooled balance to validators on your behalf, then passes through a share of the reward. You never touch a validator directly, and your MON is not in your own wallet.
The second option is what this guide is comparing. It's more convenient — no minimum stake, no validator research, instant sign-up — but it adds exchange counterparty risk on top of Monad's normal protocol risk. You're trusting the exchange to (a) actually delegate the funds as advertised, (b) remain solvent, and (c) let you withdraw when the lock period ends. That's a materially different risk profile than the exchange's own flexible product, which is typically just an internal liability the exchange owes you, and different again from holding MON in your own wallet and delegating it yourself. None of the three is "safe" in an absolute sense — they're different trade-offs between yield, convenience, and custody.

Staking APY only tells half the story. The other half is what it costs to move MON off an exchange once you're done with it — and for MON, that cost varies by orders of magnitude depending on which exchange and network you use. At the cheap end, the fee is a rounding error — a tiny fraction of a single MON token. At the expensive end, it's double-digit MON for the exact same transfer. That's not a small difference; on a modest withdrawal, it can be several orders of magnitude apart, and it can eat an entire year of staking rewards in one click if you pick the wrong exchange to route through. One more thing worth flagging: of the seven withdrawal routes Yieldo tracks for MON, one — BingX's network — is currently fully closed for both withdrawals and deposits. Cheapest Way to Withdraw MON (OKX vs KuCoin)

Monad is an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain built around a parallel execution engine, designed to process transactions concurrently rather than one at a time — the pitch being materially higher throughput and sub-second finality compared to legacy sequential-EVM chains, while staying compatible with existing Ethereum tooling and smart contracts. What we can say with confidence: at this point, buying MON on a listed exchange and staking it (if that's your goal) doesn't require having participated in any earlier distribution.
Risks of Staking and Holding MON
MON carries the risk profile typical of a young layer-1 token, plus the specific trade-offs of whichever staking product you choose:
- Early-network volatility. Monad launched its mainnet in late 2025. Tokens from freshly launched L1s tend to see outsized price swings in their first year or two as liquidity, listings, and vesting unlocks work through the market — in either direction.
- Unlock and vesting pressure. As team, investor, and ecosystem allocations vest and unlock over time, additional MON supply can enter circulation and put pressure on price independent of network fundamentals.
- Exchange counterparty risk (custodial staking). Both flexible and on-chain MON products on Bitget, Gate.io, and Bybit require you to deposit MON into the exchange's custody. If the exchange faces insolvency, a hack, or a withdrawal freeze, your staked balance is exposed along with everything else you hold there.
- Lock-up liquidity risk. On-chain products often carry a short lock period (Gate.io's has run around 2 days at last check). If MON's price drops sharply while you're locked, you can't exit until the term ends — a trade-off for the higher rate.
- Delegation and validator risk (native staking). If you delegate directly from your own wallet rather than through an exchange, your returns and reliability depend on the validator you choose — a validator that goes offline or misbehaves can affect your rewards.
- Network freeze / availability risk. As shown above, at least one MON withdrawal route is currently fully closed. A network being listed doesn't guarantee it's open for withdrawals or deposits at any given moment — always check live status before you need to move funds urgently.
- Young protocol / execution risk. Monad's parallel-EVM execution engine is a genuinely new design.
