Asset profile

CRV is the token of Curve, a protocol for crypto swaps and crvUSD lending. To participate in governance, a holder locks CRV on Ethereum for between one week and four years. The position is recorded as veCRV: it cannot be transferred to another owner, and its voting weight depends on the amount of CRV and the remaining lock period. That weight decreases as the unlock date approaches. Participants can vote on Curve decisions and the allocation of rewards between pools, shared reserves used for swaps. Part of swap fees and lending interest is distributed to veCRV participants; the current reward token is crvUSD. It is collected through a separate Claim transaction on Ethereum. Once the selected lock expires, all locked CRV can be returned through Withdraw. Claiming rewards does not end the lock. CRV is also available on Arbitrum, Optimism and Polygon; the locking and fee-claiming process described here uses Ethereum.
