Asset profile

UNI is the governance token of Uniswap, a protocol for swapping crypto assets through pools: shared token reserves supplied by participants. UNI holders vote on treasury spending, fee settings and the protocol's development. To vote on Ethereum, a holder first assigns voting power to their own address or a representative through Agora or Tally. The tokens stay in the wallet; the delegate can be changed and UNI can be transferred normally. Liquidity-provider fees go to users who separately deposit assets in pools. In the protocol-fee system, collected assets are sent to a TokenJar. The Firepit mechanism lets a participant burn a specified amount of UNI in exchange for selected assets from that reserve. This is a separate UNI transaction, while governance uses tokens held in the wallet. To buy UNI in the Uniswap app, a user connects a wallet and selects a swap; Ethereum transactions require ETH for network fees.
