Funding on Hyperliquid
Hyperliquid is an on-chain perpetual DEX built around a fully on-chain order book — not an AMM — so quotes, fills and funding all settle transparently on its own chain while you keep custody of your collateral. There is no centralized operator holding your balance.
Funding on Hyperliquid accrues far more frequently than on most centralized venues — every 1h — which makes the carry cost of a position accumulate in small, granular steps rather than large periodic hits. Yieldo tracks 41 Hyperliquid perpetual pairs with live rates, and ASTER currently shows the widest positive funding.
Because everything is on-chain, the funding mechanism is auditable and self-custodial, but the trade-off is smart-contract and bridge exposure that a centralized exchange does not carry — a risk worth weighing before moving size on-chain.
Specs verified: 10.07.2026
Good for funding traders
- + Fully on-chain order book — quotes, fills and funding settle transparently and are auditable on-chain
- + Self-custody: you keep control of collateral instead of depositing it with a centralized operator
- + Funding accrues frequently, every 1h, so carry cost builds in small granular steps rather than large periodic hits
- + 41+ perpetual pairs tracked live, with funding you can verify against on-chain state
- + No account approval or KYC gate to read and act on the funding market — a connected wallet is enough
Watch out for
- − Smart-contract risk: a bug or exploit in the protocol can put on-chain collateral at risk in ways a CEX does not expose
- − Bridge risk: moving funds onto and off the chain adds a separate attack surface with its own failure modes
- − On-chain liquidity, while deep for a DEX, can still trail the largest centralized books on smaller markets
- − On-chain trading fees on Hyperliquid are separate from funding and are not folded into the annualized column shown here
How funding rates work on Hyperliquid
A funding rate is a periodic payment exchanged directly between long and short traders in a perpetual futures market — there is no fee to the exchange. It keeps the perpetual price anchored to spot: when the rate is positive, longs pay shorts (bullish crowding); when negative, shorts pay longs. On Hyperliquid, funding settles every 1h, so the annualized column projects the current rate across a full year at that cadence. Rates change every interval — treat them as a live snapshot, not a fixed yield.
How to use this page
- 1 Read the table. Each row is a perpetual pair on Hyperliquid. A green rate means longs pay shorts; red means shorts pay longs. The annualized column extrapolates the current rate over a year.
- 2 Spot the extremes. The snapshot cards flag the highest and most negative funding right now — the pairs where directional crowding, and carry opportunity, is strongest.
- 3 Compare across exchanges. Use the heatmap below to see the same coins on other venues. A funding gap between two exchanges is the basis for delta-neutral carry.
- 4 Act market-neutral. To harvest funding without price risk, pair a long on the low/negative-funding venue with a short on the high-funding venue. Both legs need margin — this is market-neutral, not risk-free.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often does Hyperliquid pay funding?
Hyperliquid accrues funding every 1h — more frequently than most centralized venues — so carry cost builds in small steps. The annualized column projects the current rate across a year at that cadence.
Is Hyperliquid self-custodial?
Yes. It is an on-chain perpetual DEX with a fully on-chain order book, so you keep custody of your collateral and there is no centralized operator holding your balance.
What are the main risks versus a centralized exchange?
Smart-contract risk and bridge risk. Your collateral sits in on-chain contracts, so a protocol bug, exploit, or bridge failure is an exposure that a custodial CEX does not carry.
Can I earn from Hyperliquid funding rates?
Yes, via delta-neutral carry: hold the low-funding side and short the high-funding perp, collecting the spread while staying market-neutral. Both legs need margin, and the on-chain leg carries smart-contract risk.
Why is a Hyperliquid funding rate negative?
Negative funding means shorts pay longs. On Hyperliquid the same mechanism runs fully on-chain, so you can verify the sign directly against on-chain state when the perpetual trades below spot.
